Joint Winter School

"The NINT-CeNS Winter School on Nanotechnology Convergence"

March 14th to 21st 2007, Edmonton (Alberta), Canada

Workshop Goals

The aim of this joint Winter School was to explore and discuss the impact and potential of the convergence of disciplines in nanotechnology:

  • Sciences and Engineering (bottom-up, self-assembly with top-down, lithography)
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences

The scientific program comprised pedagogical lectures and supervised hands-on experiments. Each PhD student had the opportunity to select two experiments from a range of different experiments on EM, AFM, Raman, etc.

To foster scientific discussions between the participants, a poster session was organized. Excursions and sight-seeing in the Edmonton area (Elk Island, Lilly Lake Resort) stimulated further informal discussions and strengthened the ties between the scientists from Germany and Canada.
