CeNS Workshop 2008

"Complex Nanosystems: Assembly, Control and Functionality"

September 29th - October 3rd, 2008

Group photo of the participants of the Workshop in Venice in 2008.

This workshop is intended to bring together young researchers and experienced scientists from the fields of physics, chemistry and molecular biology and to give the graduate students and post-doctoral researchers of CeNS an overview of current research topics on nanometer-scale science. Unfortunately, due to the limited space in the conference hall, we are not able to open the workshop to external participants.

Program Committee

The program committee is composed of the following CeNS members: Thomas Bein, Erwin Frey, Jörg P. Kotthaus (LMU), Roland Netz, Matthias Rief (TUM).

Travelling by air

Several airlines offer flights to Marco Polo International Airport at Venice.

Transport from the airport to San Servolo:

Alilaguna waterbus: Take the Alilaguna boat (BLU or ORO line) from Airport to S. Zaccaria. Boats leave hourly (travel time about 1 hour) and cost 12 EUR. Take the shuttle bus from terminal to dock. From San Zaccaria you have to take boat No. 20 to San Servolo (see timetable).

ATVO buses (No. 35) go from the airport to Piazzale Roma and they leave in front of the entrance of the departure hall. Tickets can be purchased at the ATVO stand in the arrival hall or directly on board. The service runs from 9.00 to 24.00 and takes about 20 minutes to reach Venice and costs 3 EUR (see Timetable). From Piazzale Roma you have to take a boat to San Marco/San Zaccaria and then take boat No. 20 to San Servolo (see timetable)

Local transport

The CeNS staff will book conference tickets ("congress cards") for participants from Munich staying at the workshop for the whole week (6 days). These tickets are valid for all buses and waterbuses in Venice (called Vaporetto) and also for the boat traffic through Canal Grande, to San Servolo and to/from the airport. The tickets are personal and must be backed up by an identity document. The validity period is printed on the tickets.

Please select book waterbus ticket in our online registration form.  The amount of EUR 34,00 will be added to your registration fee automatically.

Participants from Munich who book a waterbus ticket will receive their ticket before the workshop.
In case that you do not book a conference ticket, you can buy waterbus tickets in Venice at the ACTV counters found at major waterbus/bus stations. A one-way ticket in Venice (more than one station) costs EUR 6,50. A ticket for the just one stop costs EUR 2,00 and has to be purchased at a ticket counter (not on board).

The boat from Venice to San Servolo (No.20, see timetable)  leaves from the stop "San Zaccaria" close to the Piazza San Marco; the stop is in front of the "Londra Palace Hotel". Please note that the timetable for the boat to San Servolo changes on October 1st!
