Excellence Strategy: CeNS members successful with draft proposal for Cluster of Excellence

An important decision has been made in the new proposal phase for the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments: LMU and its partners can submit full proposals for three new Clusters of Excellence by this summer.

Since the excellence competition was launched in 2006, LMU has been one of the most successful universities and has been continuously funded in all funding lines. In the Clusters of Excellence funding line – which is designed for large, internationally competitive research consortia – the first preliminary decision for the next funding period has now been made. As announced today, LMU and its cooperation partners can now submit full proposals for a total of three new Clusters of Excellence by this summer.

“I would like to thank everyone at LMU who contributed to crafting draft proposals for all their dedication and hard work,” says LMU President Professor Bernd Huber. “We are delighted to have overcome the first hurdle with three draft proposals in the highly competitive selection process for new Clusters of Excellence. This achievement reaffirms the scientific excellence of LMU. I extend my best wishes to the research projects still in the running and wish them the best of success in the subsequent stages of the application process.”

The following LMU Cluster of Excellence projects with participation of CeNS members can now submit full proposals:

  • BioSysteM: Biosystems Design Munich (together with TU Munich)
  • Cluster for Nucleic Acid Sciences and Technologies – NUCLEATE (together with TU Munich and JMU Würzburg)

Four Clusters of Excellence are already being funded at LMU, three of them with participation of CeNS members (MCQST, e-conversion, and ORIGINS). These can be extended for an additional seven years beyond the current funding period which ends in 2025.
