CeNS turns 25!

The Center for NanoScience celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary

The LMU Center for NanoScience (CeNS) successfully networks scientists in the field of nanoscience. It is now celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. CeNS was founded in 1998 as a network of research groups at the Faculty of Physics at LMU to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of nanoscience. Since then, over 400 enthusiastic researchers from many disciplines at LMU as well as from several other institutions in the Munich area have joined the network - united by their interest in structures and processes at the nanoscale. Today, CeNS is a prime example of a stimulating interdisciplinary research network.

On the occasion of its anniversary, the symposium "NanoScience - tomorrow's innovations" was held on January 25, 2024. The keynote "Molecule-scale resolution and dynamics in fluorescence microscopy" was given by Nobel laureate Stefan Hell, MPI for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Göttingen & MPI for Medical Research, Heidelberg. Further talks were presented by the next generation of CeNS members: Frédéric Laquai (KAUST, joining LMU as of summer 2024) on" Emerging Photovoltaics Technologies - Challenges and Opportunities", Olivia Merkel on "New Approaches for Therapeutic Pulmonary RNA Delivery", Dmitri Efetov on "How nano-engineered quantum materials are changing the world", Ralf Jungmann on "From DNA Nanotechnology to biomedical insight: Towards single-molecule spatial omics". Last but not least, Khaled Karrai from the successful CeNS spin-off attocube spoke about "Innovation - from ideas to products". The festive event in LMU's beautiful Aula ended with a reception, accompanied by the CeNS music band "UnCeNSiert".
