LMU Dissertation Award for Leonhard Möckl

Dr. Leonhard Möckl

At a festive event on the occasion of LMU's 544th anniversary, Dr. Leonhard Möckl from Professor Bräuchle's group at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy received one of the dissertation awards of LMU Munich. He was honored for his dissertation "The Sweet Side of the Membrane - Sugars in Biophysics, Bacterial Adhesion, and siRNA Delivery". Leonhard Möckl investigated important functions of the glycocalyx, a complex structure on the cell surface consisting of various sugar molecules. He could show that cells can regulate the dynamics of membrane proteins by modification of the sugar molecules. These findings might enable novel therapeutic approaches, e.g. in cancer therapy.
