Arnold Sommerfeld Prize for Dr. Hanna Engelke

CeNs member receives award of the Bavarian Academy of Science

The Opens external link in new windowBavarian Academy of Sciences has awarded the Arnold Sommerfeld Prize 2018 to CeNS member Opens external link in new windowDr. Hanna Engelke (LMU Munich) for her research in the field of medical biophysics. Hanna Engelke leads a junior research group at LMU Munich, where she investigates the mechanical interaction of cells with their environment. In her highly interdisciplinary research, Hanna Engelke has driven forward the development of nanoparticles as nano carriers for the targeted transport of medical drugs in diseased tissues, especially cancerous tissue. She has developed transport systems that can work undetected by the immune system and thus may contribute to personalized medicine. In addition, she has accomplished important contributions to the understanding of the interactions of cells and their environment by fundamental experiments on the mechanobiology of cells. The results of her investigations are of high scientific and medical relevance - from the spread of metastases to the formation of organoids from stem cells as model organs.
