20 Years of NanoScience
The LMU Center for NanoScience (CeNS) successfully connects scientists in the field of nanoscience. Now it celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The Center for NanoScience (CeNS) was founded in 1998 as a network of research groups at LMU's Faculty of Physics to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of nanoscience. Since then, more than 400 enthusiastic researchers from many disciplines have joined the network at the LMU and several other institutions in the Munich area - united by their interest in structures and processes on the nanoscale. Today, CeNS is a prime example of a stimulating interdisciplinary research network.
Exactly 20 years ago, on January 18th 1999, the festive opening symposium of CeNS took place. This year, the anniversary was celebrated with opening addresses by LMU President Prof. Huber and the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Prof. Bender, followed by a speech of CeNS spokesman Prof. Braun.
The scientific part comprised of invited talks by Prof. Florian Marquardt (Erlangen) and Prof. Joachim Spatz (Heidelberg) and two talks by CeNS members Dr. Tayebeh Ameri and Prof. Alexander Urban.
Among the many guests, there were also all six CeNS founding members, i.e. Prof. Jochen Feldmann, Prof. Hermann Gaub, Prof. Khaled Karrai, Prof. Jörg Kotthaus, Prof. Johann Peisl, and Prof. Wilhelm Zwerger.
