Following an invitation of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Center for NanoScience (CeNS) participated in a visit of five highest-ranked Chinese universities and research institutions in Beijing and Shanghai. The delegation headed by the Deputy Secretary General of the DAAD, Dr. Dorothea Rüland, stayed in China from October 21st to 26th and was themed China and Germany: Educating Researchers for the Future. Besides CeNS, five other German institutions had been selected to present their graduate programs in the framework of this travel to China. The professors and coordinators of the doctoral programs from Aachen, Freiburg, Göttingen, Kaiserslautern and both Munich Universities (LMU and TU) visited the Tsinghua University, Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Beijing as well as the Fudan University and Jiaotong University in Shanghai. During these visits, the participants of the delegation met administrators, faculty members and students of the Chinese institutions and representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Education. In separate sessions, the participants of the six German institutions presented their graduate programs to the highly interested students of the Chinese host universities and answered numerous questions concerning PhD and Master Studies in Germany. These multilateral discussions with the students and representatives provided precious insights into the conditions for study and research in China which are invaluable for future collaborations between the Chinese and German academic institutions.
