The participants from Munich and Augsburg will have at their disposal two overland buses which will take the group from Munich to Venice and back leaving on Sunday morning (19th) at 10:00 from Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1 and returning on Friday evening (24th).

To book a seat please select book train ticket in our online registration form. The ticket price of EUR 90,00 will be added automatically to your registration fee.

Individual travel by train

There is a direct night train from Munich to Venice on Sunday, 19th, leaving Munich at 21h03 and departing from Venice on Friday, 24th at 22h51. In addition, you can probably take a connection via Verona leaving from Munich at 11:31 and departing from Venice at 12:50. However, this connection is not yet confirmed and it is not possible for us to book it for the whole group.

Travelling by air

Several airlines offer flights to Marco Polo International Airport at Venice. From the airport, regular boats (e.g. ALILAGUNA) connect to the island of Venice where speakers and participants are lodged. The conference location San Servolo is reached via boat No. 20 from close to the Piazzale San Marco.

Accommodation

We have booked rooms in several hotels and hostels from Sunday evening (19th) to Friday morning (24th).  Rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds will be at disposal for students (PhD and Diploma/Master). All rooms are located in the historic center of Venice.

To book accommodation from Sept 19th  (arrival) to Sept 24th (departure): Select book accommodation in our online registration form. The amount of EUR 30,00 (Master & PhD students) / EUR 80,00 (PostDoc & senior staff) will be added automatically to your registration fee. Please indicate the names of your preferential roommates.

Hotels / Hostels:

The speakers of the workshop stay at the hotel Domus Ciliota.

Registered participants are lodged in one of the following hotels/hostels: Don Orione, Foresteria Valdese, Santa Maria della Pietà. The organizational staff will inform the participants about the name of the hotel they are assigned to.

Local transport

The historic center of Venice is quite small so that you can walk to most of the interesting places from the hotels. In addition, you can take the waterbuses (called Vaporetto) across the famous Canal Grande or take other lines to travel to the small islands closeby. The transfer from the airport to the historic part of Venice is possible via bus or waterbus. Once in Venice, you have to take the waterbus No. 20 to reach the conference venue on San Servolo. You can check the timetables at the Hellovenezia website and buy tickets online (cheaper if bought several days before the conference) here.

For those participants going to Venice with the chartered overland bus, the CeNS staff will book Vaporetto-Tickets (42,50 EUR valid from Sunday to Saturday) in advance and hand them out after arrival in Venice. These tickets are valid for all buses and waterbuses in Venice and also for the boat traffic through Canal Grande, to San Servolo and to other islands. If you take the group bus and would like to buy such a ticket for the waterbuses, please select book waterbus ticket in our online registration form.  The amount of EUR 42,50 will be added to your registration fee automatically.

In case that you do not book a conference ticket, you can buy waterbus tickets in Venice at the ACTV counters found at major waterbus/bus stations. A one-way ticket in Venice (more than one station) costs EUR 6,50.

The boat from Venice to San Servolo (No.20)http://www.univiu.org/campus/boats/ leaves from the stop "San Zaccaria" close to the Piazza San Marco; the stop is in front of the "Londra Palace Hotel".

To apply for support, please send an e-mail by August 13th  to Marie-Christine Blüm stating your status, the group you are working with, and the reason why there is no other financing source.
