Administrative Information

Wage
Holders of a scholarship will be hired by the university (3/4 E13 position) and will receive around 1400€ net (after tax and insurance deduction), which will cover all your living expenses in Munich.

Student Fees
To do your phd you have to be enrolled at the university for three semesters. Each semester you have to pay a student fee of 42€.

Health Insurance
Health Insurance is obligatory and will automatically be deducted from the wage. We will help you find a suitable health insurance.

Housing
The normal rent of a 30sqm flat in Munich is between 450 - 550 €. A room in a shared flat also amounts between 400 - 500 €. We will provide help in finding a permanent flat.

Visa
EU-Nationals do not need a visa. More or less every other national needs a so-called national visa (a tourist visa for the interview, but a national visa in order to work here). Please find the important information here.

Administrative Matters
For any administrative matters like residence permit and enrolling at the university we will either accompany you to the different offices or provide any help that is needed.

Working language
During your phd the working language is English.

German language course
To make you familiar with the German language and culture we will pay a German course at the LMU.

Curriculum
A large variety of workshops, courses etc. will be offered during your phd, but there a no obligatory courses you need to attend.

Degree
After successfully finishing your phd you will be carrying the title Dr. rer. nat.
