Doing a PhD in Munich - "A Thoroughly Exciting, Challenging, and Enjoyable Experience"

Elisângela from Brazil:

"Before starting my PhD, I spent two months in Munich participating in the NIM summer school. It was an excellent way to get an overview of Munich and I could notice the stimulating scientific environment and also the high quality level of the interdisciplinary works developed at the universities and research centers. Munich is not only a city which presents many facilities in science but it also concentrates many cultural places and events, allowing the scientific developing and cultural enrichment."

Kulpreet from India:

"I’ve found IDK to be a wonderful platform for interaction between young graduates pursuing research in a common field. Add to it the informal discussions between graduate students and young researchers (like Science Rocks!) account for improvement in the ability of students to discuss and present their work in the scientific community. The city with its great traditions offers a great place to see the Bavarian and German cultures through number of events ranging from the Oktoberfest to the Christkindlmarkt."

Kamila from Poland

"Considering science, Munich is a hub of excellence; when it comes to sports - it's perfectly suited for numerous disciplines and if you think of any type of leisure, you're definitely in the right place. Situated at the bottom of the Alps, surrounded by woods and lakes, Munich attracts passionate people from all around the world. Vivid and international, the city still maintains its typical Bavarian atmosphere. And if you wish to immerse yourself in the vast variety of scientific opportunities, IDK lets you do so."

Lidiya from Ukraine

eing accepted as an IDK doctorate is a great honour for me. It enabled me to do my PhD exactly in the field I would like. CENS provides all the kinds of support for members and gives very good chances for professional and personal growth by arranging lectures on the newest scientific achievements and creating network between young researchers. Last but not least, München is one of the best cities in the world and my favorite city. I feel here like home from the very first day. Dreams come true, thanks CENS for that!"

Leila from Iran:

"Although Munich is much smaller than the city where I come from (13 million people!), I really like living in Munich. It is mostly quiet for me... Anyway, it is ranked as one of the 10 top cities in the world with highest quality of life. The atmosphere at the doctorate program and CeNS is very friendly and because of many events and regular seminars, there are lots of opportunities to communicate with other people in the same field and get new ideas and also make friends. I am really happy that I am here."

Cheng from China:

"To me Munich is a cozy town where you can find everything you want. It is an honour to be a member of the doctorate program and its financial support is a great encouragement for me. In addition, CeNS offers me a lot of opportunities and feels like a big family."

Markus from Austria:

"For me Munich is the perfect city to do a PhD and live. It offers a perfect mixture of excellent universities and international high tech companies on the one hand. On the other hand Munich is full of culture, has a very diverse night life. Furthermore, it is close to the Alps which is good for skiing and mountain biking, has the English Garden, and  - also quite important - lots of beer gardens. A great city in summer and winter - only drawback: it is quite expensive."

Tom from Australia:

"Munich and Bavaria are a great place to live and do a PhD, with outstanding investment in facilities, large numbers of outstanding research groups, and outstanding collaboration between these groups. [...] The International Doctorate Programs of the Elite Network of Bavaria offer not only top research, but also extensive soft-skills coaching from presentation technique to patent law. Munich is a lively city with heaps of culture, from orchestras, theatres, to the biggest social festival in the world: Oktoberfest. [...] "
