ZnO-based devices and technology: Nanoscale building blocks, transparent electronics and photonics

Marius Grundmann
Institut für Experimentelle Physik II, Universität Leipzig

ZnO is a transparent semiconductor that can be fabricated in thin films, needles, nanorods and many other shapes. We review the fabrication and applications of micro- and nanopillars, also including heterostructures. As a channel material ZnO enables transparent field effect transistors. Using Schottky gates low voltage operation (1-2 V) can be realized for FETs and ICs. As active material in microcavities strong light-matter coupling persists beyond a temperature of 400 K.
